So I'm following the tecmint tutorial to install samba 4 active directory on ubuntu, but I'm running to an issue with resolving my domain name. I can ping the FQDN and Host, but not the domain name. Here is my setup:

Hostname:

adc1

Hosts file:

127.0.1.1 adc1.tirnanog.local adc1

When I try to ping, these are the results that I get:

Can anyone give me a hand and let me know what I'm doing wrong? I have a good feeling it is something to do with the dns-nameservers, but I've tried changing them a few time in /etc/network/interfaces and I can't seem to get anything to work.

By the way, this is what I'm running:

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS
Release: 16.04
Codename: xenial

The original guide I was following was: www.tecmint.com/install-samba4-active-directory-ubuntu/

But it turns out that I completely skipped the step of setting up DNS all together. I just restarted from scratch and now successfully have DNS running as it should. biggrin.gif That should make the next part much easier lol.

In addition to the SAMBA documentation /u/dundir linked me to here, lists.thekelleys.org.uk/pipermail/dnsmasq-discuss/2011q1/004796.html in reddit.com/r/linux4noobs, I used tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1912 to gain some good knowledge on DNS configuration best practices.

I used two sites to guide me along with setting up DNS:

1st - help.ubuntu.com/lts/serverguide/dns-configuration.html

I found this one lacked some of the explanation that i needed to understand what and why I was doing something.

2nd - ulyssesonline.com/2007/11/07/how-to-setup-a-dns-server-in-ubuntu/

This one did a bit more explaining and helped me get a better understanding of what and why.
