Linuxhelp _ Technical Support _ Dual Boot XP & Mint with 2 hard disks

Posted by: rufus2 Apr 20 2016, 12:54 AM

I'm a newbie - aged 82 - so please be patient!
Trying to change from Windows to learn LINUX but retain Windows pro temp..
I have 2 hard disks Disk C = disk1 (YES!) disk E = disk 0.
Disk C runs XP Pro SP3.
I have installed Mint on Disk E via a USB stick and that ran fine - Until I re-booted.
Whenever & however I re-boot, XP comes up.
I changed the disk order to boot O then 1 - it passes-over 0 and loads XP.
I thought I'd be able to "see" disk E(0) in Windows but I cannot read anything from it.
I cannot boot Mint.
I have had a look at messing with MBR but it frightened me rigid = can't understand it so far
I know what and where it is but that's about all.
Is it possible to assist - in simple terms and full instructions??? Please?

Windows can not access linux file systems unless you load a driver like Paragon extfs linux has a decent driver to access NTFS. I suggest creating a separate partition for sharing data.

This should work. You want to install the grub to disk 0 which will setup xp as well.
