Linuxhelp _ Technical Support _ Will not boot from disk

Posted by: lysaeden Oct 29 2014, 06:06 PM

I am extremely new to the Linux world. I recently purchased a Mint 17v2 Cinnamon - Install/Live DVD (32-bit) disk to load on a laptop. The reason for this is the laptop had been running Windows 2000 and I ran into an issue starting it up. To fix the issue, I tried to install from a Windows XP disk and got as far as entering the disk code (please forgive me if my wording is exact)...turns out the disk had already been used on another computer, so I could not complete the install. Put the Cinnamon disk into the laptop, did a reboot, and I am still seeing prompts from Windows looking for the XP disk instead of Linux install. I have gone into Boot Menu and isolated the CD/DVD drive as the only place to look for boot information and I get an error message "No bootable devices--strike F1 to retry boot, F2 to enter setup utility". Not sure what I'm doing wrong or what the next step should be. Please help.

Is the CD good? Have you tried using it on another PC?
If it works on another PC then we assume the problem is with the laptop. Selecting the CD/DVD drive as the first boot device should work so verify the setting was saved.

What is the make/model of laptop?

Have now tried it in another laptop with no luck. Will send OSDisk, who I purchased from, an e-mail. Thank you for pointing out that it may not be a user error....never thought of that.

Dell/Latitude is the type of laptop I am trying to get an OS on.
