Linuxhelp _ Life after Windoze _ Practice Linux before making commitment. 2 users on windows disc?

Posted by: riverview9 Jun 16 2011, 12:46 PM

How can I practice or try out linux without making a commitment? I tried putting Linux on USB stick but I can only boot from disc. Is it safe to buy a Linux disc from ebay or will it corrupt my computer if its conterfeit or infected? I've read forum threads about trying linux but its over my head.

My windows computer was broken beyond repair. I borrowed a windows disc but now it wants me to authenticate. Can I do that if I'm not the sole user of disc?

Also can you download torrents from sites like www.btjunkie.com with linux?

Authentication will fail since I would assume the hardware would not match.
You can download live disk images and burn them to CD/DVD and use linux without installing to the hard drive. Any changes made will be lost. Check out www.distrowatch.com for the top distributions.
