Linuxhelp _ Programming in Linux _ Need a help with Code to type

Posted by: enyatara Jun 19 2006, 09:59 AM

Need a bit more help I posted a help plea and someone greatfully came back with an answer which I printed out. I copied from cd a program for grafic card. Used console to open tar and worked. The instructions said enter cd and program name NVIDIA/./configure/make. Am not sure if have followed instruction correctly but this seems not to work, either get No such File or a Child 2 error. I will get there in end as a lot different to windows.

Nvidia have one of the best driver-installation processes out there. You should start by getting the most recent copy of the driver from http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html (IA32 for most computers). You should save it to your desktop to begin with.

Then, press "ctrl-alt-F1" and login as root (no password will be shown on the screen as you type it).

You need to stop the GUI before you can run thenstaller, so type "init 3" and wait for it to finish what it's doing.

Then all you have to do is run "sh /home/your_username/Desktop/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8762-pkg1.run" to run the installer. IT may require you to install the "kernel-source" if it isnt installed already. To do so, use the same method that you would use to isntall other Suse software (through Yast I assume) you are probably looking for a package called "kernel-source" or similar.

You can then run "nvidia-xconfig" to make your computer use the driver. After that, ust reboot and you should be using the offical nVidia driver.
