Linuxhelp _ General Discussion _ Linux Live CD, allows NTFS reading and sees USB mounted external HDD?

I'm going about fixing up my cousin's WinXP Media Ed. PC, and it's infected beyond the point that I care to clean out all the malware. I'm going to format the box, but before I do so, I'd like to backup all the files from the 'My Documents' folder. It's not currently posible do do using a normal bootup, and even in safe mode, explorer.exe crashes regularly and stops the copying process.

Is there a Linux live CD I could pop into this HP laptop, that will read NTFS and allow me to copy it over to an external HDD connected via USB? The external HDD is also NTFS. If copying to NTFS is not possible, I could use a FAT32 thumb drive.

I long for some stability on this laptop

I'm downloading a knoppix live cd while I wait, in hopes that it works smile.gif

Cheers

Most any live CD should work for you. Give Knoppix a try.
