I took over a linux box and need to know the list of users so I can manage them and delete unwanted or unused users. Any suggestions?

Ok I typed cat /etc/passwd | more and got a lot of output to my screen. I think I was able to determine the users. Thank you. is there a way to see when a user last logged on either locally or using ssh?

For local users use the last command. See man pages for details
For ssh users check the /var/log/auth/info file.

To get a list of users *only* try :

cat /etc/passwd | cut -d ":" -f 1 -
