Linuxhelp _ Hardware Support _ Unlocking Cd Drive

Posted by: Nichalp Feb 9 2004, 01:22 PM

I am new to GNU/Linux. I have Mandrake 8.2 installed. I have two CD drives [ATAPI CD-ROM (G:)] and Samsung CD-RW(H:). When I try to access the H: (cd1) in mandrake, I get a 'locked folder' icon and a message pops up 'do not have permission to access this drive.' This is frustrating as I cannot even access it in root mode!
Please help me access my CD RW drive.

What program are you trying to access the CDROM with (konqueror, nautilus)?

What desktop manager are you using (KDE, GNOME)?

There are no G: and H: designators in Linux ... so I'm not sure what's up.

Do you have a disc in the drive? Was the disc placed into the Drive after you booted into mandrake or before?

What is your goal ... to read an already recorded CD from the drive or to write to a CD on the CDRW?
